FUNDRAISING AND CHRISTIAN SERVICE PROGRAMSThe Fundraising and Christian Service Programs are a vital part of the school. The programs provide needed personnel for students’ services/events and funds to the school. By enrolling your child/ren in Mary Star of the Sea Elementary and Middle School, you have automatically committed yourself to both school programs. No aspect of either program may be transferred, credited, or refunded. Scrip is our major means of fundraising. Scrip is gift certificates to various stores in the area. The school offers a variety of grocery stores as well as specialty stores. The school purchases the scrip from the various merchants less the percentage that the store offers. We in turn sell it to you, the parents, dollar for dollar. The percentage of each particular store you purchase is then added to your total fundraising commitment. Example: If you purchase $100.00 in Albertsons scrip from the office or scrip table on Sundays, Albertsons percentage is 4%. Therefore, $4.00 is added to your fundraising commitment. Each family is required to make a choice as to the fundraising plan they wish to commit to for the school year. The plan you decide, at the time of registration, is a commitment on your part and is to be adhered to as per the program’s structure. The requirements of the plan must be completed by April 30th of the school year. Example: $400.00 Scrip Profit to the school, as required $300.00 Scrip Profit to the school, as purchased from parents $100.00 Scrip Balance Due to the school In addition, each family is required to participate in a mandatory school fundraiser. The pledge amount is to be paid through the fundraiser(s) made available to the families of the school. The families, who do not participate, are required to pay the $150.00 pledge to the school on or before April 30th. Each family is required to complete 40 Christian Service Hours for the school year. The dollar value of each Christian Service hour is $10.00. Twenty service hours are to be completed from May 1st to January 31st. The remaining twenty hours are to be completed from February 1st to April 30th. You will be billed $10.00 per hour for the balance of Christian Service not completed in this time period. Christian Service hours are not transferred, credited or refunded. Once parents have committed themselves to a specific service/event, the parent is required to fulfill his/her obligation to the same. Parents who do not fulfill their obligation on the day and time of the service/event, will have the number of hours the job required ADDED on to their Christian Service responsibility. An example of not fulfilling your responsibility: If you sign up to sell Halloween Carnival tickets and you do not show up, the amount of time will be added to your Christian Service Hours. Parents, who agree to give service to programs that are designated as a yearly responsibility, are required to do so until the end of the program. Failure to complete a yearly service will result in a charge equaling the number of hours remaining multiplied by $10.00. An example of a yearly responsibility, September to June, is staffing the milk room. It is the responsibility of each parent to record their service hours on a Christian Service Hours Time Sheet that is sent home in the communicator envelope each month. It is also required that the time sheets be sent back to the school office by the date that is specified. Each family is suggested to keep track of their own record at home for reference.
