BACKGROUND
Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School was established in 1914 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart Order.  Today the school is staffed by a lay principal and vice principal, a Norbertine priest who serves as School Chaplain as well as teacher, and a qualified and dedicated staff.
 
 
 
 
ACCREDITATION
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) jointly accredit Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School.
 
 
 
 
ENROLLMENT
Current enrollment is 310 students with 20 faculty and staff members.  We offer full day kindergarten, and there is one classroom of each grade, kindergarten through fifth, with sixth, seventh and eighth grades departmentalized.
 
 
 
 
CURRICULUM
Meeting California State Standards, our curriculum includes Religion, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Family Life, Science, Computer Literacy (K-8), Physical Education, and Art.  The school is on a trimester system.
 
 
 
 
FACILITIES
On-campus facilities include: PC computer lab, school library, enclosed play yard, church, and A.M. and P.M. extended day care.
 
 
 
 
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Enrichment activities offered are Acolytes in Grades 5 through 8, the California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF), Student Council, Catholic Youth Organization Sports Program (CYO), Cheerleading, St. Dominic Savio Service Club.
 
 
 
 
CHRISTIAN SERVICES
Monthly school masses, liturgical celebrations, Christian Witness awards, Acolytes, and prayer as an integral part of each day.
 
 
 
 
PARENT PARTICIPATION AND OBLIGATIONS
Parent participation is strongly encouraged.  Along with the required fund raising obligations, parents are asked to use their talents and skills to assist with the daily activities and special events at the school.
